The proposals of the Train Factory competition in Pasila are now on display
A hotel and a headquarters quality office space is planned to replace the electric train building in the Pasila machine shop area. You can give your opinion on the competition proposals in the Voice your opinion service until October 23, 2022.
A hotel and office are planned to replace the electric train building, located on Teollisuuskatu in the Pasila machine shop area.
The owner of the property, The Train Factory Oy, held an architectural competition for the design of the new building. A total of five architectural firms were invited to participate in the international competition, organized in cooperation with the City of Helsinki and the Finnish Association of Architects (SAFA).
The objective of the competition is to find a design solution suitable for the project site with a new, more efficient land use solution that becomes a natural part of the city structure and a built cultural environment of national significance. At the same time, the new building complex is expected to support the future development of the Teollisuuskatu axis as the working center and city center of Helsinki and improve the quality and connections of the area’s pedestrian realm.
You can submit your opinions on the contest entries until October 23
You can review the competition proposals in the Voice your opinion service from October 4 to October 23, 2022. The city of Helsinki hopes that its inhabitants will give their opinion on what is good in the proposals and what still needs to be developed. The competition entries will also be displayed in the lobby of the Helsinki Urban Environment House (except from October 10 from 2:00 p.m. to October 11 at 11:30 a.m.). The address is Työpajankatu 8 in Kalasatama district.
Respondents are also asked to consider whether the plan presented supports the development of the Teollisuuskatu area as a central work area and an expansion of the city center. Or, is the plan suitable to be part of the historically valuable Pasila Machine Shop area? Respondents can also vote for their favorite proposal in the poll. The presentation texts are available in Finnish and English, while the proposals themselves are in English, because the architectural competition is international.
Feedback received through the survey will be submitted to the jury before the winner is selected at the end of October 2022. Once the competition is over, planning for the area will continue with the preparation of a detailed plan proposal, in which the winning proposal will serve as the basis. The City will report separately on the progress of the planning process in early winter 2023.
