Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in Meerut on January 2.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced the establishment of the university to promote sport in the state.

According to the government spokesperson, “Major Dhyan Chand Sports University will be an important step in equipping young people to perform well on national and international platforms. Training in all kinds of sports will be taught here and based on performance at national and international level.International competitions, a diploma will also be awarded.

“The university will have a bachelor’s degree in sports and will offer diplomas, certificates, postgraduate degrees, M.Phil and Ph.D. It will be able to accommodate 540 men and 540 women.”

The university will cover an area of ​​approximately 91 acres. It will include an indoor stadium, an ice rink, a synthetic hockey field, a swimming pool with Olympic standards, a football field, a volleyball court, a basketball court, a handball court, kabaddi fields, a court. tennis court, gymnasium and multipurpose hall.

The spokesperson said that the chief minister had asked the interior ministry to formulate a policy to give jobs to sportsmen in the police force.

Plan money for athletes has also been increased from Rs 250 per month to Rs 375. Instructions have been issued to appoint 50 international level coaches for various games while appointments are expected to be made at the earliest for 266 vacant positions. in the sports department.

“The government will also build rural stadiums and open gymnasiums to promote sport in the interior rural areas of the state. A policy to develop sports academies with the help of private institutions has also been enacted so that better training can be provided to athletes, “the spokesperson said.
