East Godavari and Chittoor win wrestling competitions on the beach
The districts of East Godavari and Chittoor won the title in the state-level beach wrestling competitions in the girls ‘and boys’ wing respectively, while host Visakhapatnam took third place in the girls at the first state-level S. Kodandaramaiah Memorial junior beach wrestling competitions, held at RK Beach here on Sunday.
The competitions were jointly conducted by the AP Wrestling Association and the Visakhapatnam District Wrestling Association.
Visakhapatnam West MP and Visakhapatnam Olympic Association President PGVR Naidu, who opened the competition, described Kodandaramaiah as the “Bhismacharya” of sports, which helped Visakhapatnam get several sports facilities. He had also brought several national and international sports competitions to the city, the lawmaker said.

AP Wrestling Association President RK Purushottam, Son of Kodandaramaiah Sridhar, Chief Boss of VOA TSR Prasad, President of Visakhapatnam Wrestling Association V. Sharat Dora, Secretary T. Jyothirmai, Representative from the Visakha Naresh Kumar container terminal, the president of the Visakhapatnam Basketball Association Sunil Mahanty, the representative of the Visakhapatnam Varma District Cricket Association were among those who attended the inaugural function.
No less than 80 girls and boys from various districts of the state participated in the competitions.
KN Harsihta from Chittoor, D. Pujita (Prakasam), Y. Deepti (Visakhapatnam), K. Dharani (Chittoor), R. Ganesh (Chittoor), Y. Poorna Vinay Kumar (East Godavari) and B. Chandramouli (Visakhapatnam) have won gold medals in different categories and qualified for the national level competitions to be held in Haryana from November 2nd.
Mr. Naidu presented the prizes to the winners at the ceremony held in the evening.
