Bayern Munich set to sign new contract with Serge Gnabry
The squad-building process continues to take shape at Bayern Munich even after the transfer window ended in early September. After the contract renewals of Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich, Die Roten is now closing negotiations with Serge Gnabry for a new agreement.
According to SportBild, discussions are well advanced between Serge Gnabry and Bayern for a new contract. The German winger leans for an extension of his stay in Bavaria. Gnabry has entered the final two years of his contract, so it was essential for Rekordmeister to extend his contract before next summer.
Gnabry has had a very good development trajectory at Die Roten over the past three years. After a productive loan at Hoffenheim in 2017/18, Gnabry returned to Bavaria to become an important part of the first team.
The Germany international stepped up a gear in 2019/20, scoring 23 goals in all competitions. He scored decisive goals throughout the triple campaign and established himself as one of the best wide players in Europe. Former club president Uli Hoeness was pleasantly surprised by Gnabry’s rapid growth at Die Roten.
After a remarkable season in 2019/20, Gnabry has witnessed a dip in his form as he struggled to score consistently last season. He ultimately ended the campaign with 11 goals in all competitions. However, the German winger remains a vital member of the current squad.
With Gnabry’s best years ahead of him, Die Roten has done a great job securing his future. Similar to Kimmich and Goretzka, Gnabry also has a big role to play in the club’s long-term plans to remain successful in Germany and Europe.
After declining performance last year, Gnabry will be looking to return to its best level this year. He’s started the new season fairly well with three goals and three assists in nine appearances across all competitions. The 26-year-old winger is reunited with Julian Nagelsmann after enjoying a productive stint under him at Hoffenheim. It looks certain that Gnabry’s productivity in the final third will improve this season, provided he stays clear of injuries.

Rekordmeister will most likely turn his attention to renewing Kingsley Coman’s contract once Gnabry signs a new deal. Negotiations with the French winger have not been straightforward so far as he enters the final two years of his current contract. With Coman, Bayern will also have to open talks with Robert Lewandowski for a new contract. The German champions have done a lot of good work on contract extensions this season, but there is more to do in the coming months.
